If You Must Have An Illegal Exhaust, Consider This

A reputable exhaust shop will not risk their reputation, let alone livelihood by performing exhaust work which is illegal.  If you find yourself a shop that's willing to say install a dual exhaust without catalytic converters, you ought to think twice, or at least ask to see a sample of their work.  You see, the shop owner in this case knows you won't be able to get what you want from a nationwide franchise or any legitimate independant exhaust shop, so he's not worried about losing you as a customer, or impressing you, or for that matter keeping you safe.  He has no incentive to do quality work because he's not competing with anyone, and sometimes it shows in a big bad way.  Here are a few examples of what I'm talking about.  Bear in mind that these are real life examples of exhaust work done by shops within ten miles of us, and that the work you're seeing is not old, in some cases only a few days.  It speaks volumes that these cars wound up in our shop at all, as opposed to being straightened out by the original guys.  Not only was the work poorly (and unsafely) done, but obviously the original shop wouldn't or perhaps couldn't do any better than what you see here.  Under the circumstances you really have to asks yourself.  Are you feeling lucky?  Forget ill fitting, ground scraping, chasis thumping, rattling, squeaking, crunching leaking and downright fugly work.  These guys might wind up damaging parts of your car that have nothing to do with the exhaust system, like your tranny crossmember, brake, tranny or even fuel lines, electrical cables, motor mounts, stabilizer links.  Just about anything that gets in the way of a quick and easy job.  After all, who can you complain to?  What're gonna do, file a lawsuit against a shop that performed illegal work at your request?  I somehow don't think so.  Please reconsider any plans you may have to have an illegal exhaust system installed on your car.  The fact is, the few tenth's of a second you may gain aren't worth the hours, days or weeks of grief you're risking, not to mention your valuable property and even your well being.

Not Only Does This Guy Have His Own Rythm Section, but that dent caused by the lower control arm smashing into the under axle pipe is going to be a large hole if not corrected.
